How do you feel about trying new foods?
Do you want to be adventurous and try something new or do you prefer to stay in your own lane and stick to what you like?
Well, no matter what your favorite food is, there’s always something out of the ordinary to try.
And so we certainly did when we went to visit the Japanese restaurant Kanpai Classic in London.
The restaurant in London’s Soho, formerly the Nobu Hotel Portman Square, unveiled an à la carte offering as well as a stunning 14-course Omakase Menu.
Okay, this may sound like a lot of courses, but each course was a delicate portion, and we were there for the recently introduced six-course Moriawase Menu.
The dishes are created by Kanpai Classic’s head chef Masatada Ogata and head chef Nicolo Bolognesi.
The a la carte menu is divided into different wagyu sections, allowing customers to experience the meat in different ways.
Kanpai Classic has only been open for a few months, but it has already made an impression on the London restaurant, welcoming customers throughout the evening.
For those who choose the Wagyu Yakiniku selection, the meat is cut to the diner’s specific requirements before being grilled to perfection by Kanpai Classic’s highly experienced staff on safe, smokeless and odorless charcoal grills installed at each table.
Meanwhile, there’s a range of different condiments and side dishes, including grated Japanese daikon radish, spring onion dressing salad and miso dressing.
However, one dish that can divide people is beef heart. Of course you’d have preconceived notions of what it would look like, let alone taste, but it’s the complete opposite of what you’d expect.
When cooked, the meat tasted a little tougher than the previous dishes and it can be compared to a well-cooked steak. Overall the flavor was still meaty and the stronger flavor was a personal highlight of the menu though.
For the Raw Wagyu range and selection with standout delicacies such as wagyu tartare with Vostok Royal Baerii caviar and celery puree and wagyu carpaccio with walnut vinaigrette, truffle vinaigrette, baby leaf salad and Parmigiano Reggiano.
The Wagyu Nigiri Sushi menu offers a truly exotic combination of flavors, combining the finest beef with yellowtail, lobster, bottarga, Jamon Iberico de Bellota and roasted unagi eel, while the Wagyu Temaki Sushi pairing ranges from Hokkaido scallops to snow crab. .
Guests can also choose from several other Kanpai Classic entries, from curry to ramen to a collection of Kamameshi dishes served with the finest Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi Japanese rice and ochazuke (green tea).
The dining experience is truly unique and is definitely reserved for those special occasions where you get to enjoy the full Kanpai Classic experience.
