I tried a rotary pizza oven for the first time – it was perfect for summer

The Revolve

There is nothing quite like the taste of pizza shared with loved ones on a quiet summer evening outside.

At a recent garden party, my friend Monique invited us outside for refreshments and nibbles, which gave me the perfect opportunity to try out the newest addition to my pizza oven arsenal. The experts at Revolve generously offered me their top-of-the-line Revolve pizza oven, which I eagerly brought along to the occasion.

Proud of my pizza skills, I was ready to show off my skills. Still, I faced stiff competition from Monique’s son Ben, a true pizza lover who might rival me enthusiastically for the perfect blend of gooey cheese and crispy crust.

Pizza ovens have recently entered the UK market, including Revolve, which is a formidable opponent to established names such as Ooni and Gozney. In the spirit of camaraderie, the Revolve team says, “We have nothing but love and admiration for our friends at Ooni and Gozney. The world is a better place when more people make good pizza. Here at Revolve, we’ve been looking specifically at what we can do to encourage more people to take up the hobby.”

What sets Revolve apart is its exciting feature: a rotating stone that ensures evenly cooked food and eliminates one of Kotipizza’s biggest trials, the awkward task of rolling pizza in tight spaces, reports the Mirror.

In addition, this innovation promotes a hands-free cooking experience, freeing up more time for socializing while your meal is effortlessly prepared.

We were eager to try it, so we were able to put the pizza oven in the garden on the table. It was well packed, which made unpacking difficult at times, but it was reassuring to know that all parts had been safely stored during delivery.

The device itself has a sleek and stylish appearance, but is compact enough for easy portability. According to Revolve’s website, the unit is designed to deliver “the perfect pizza anywhere” and comes with its own carrying case/rain cover.

The stabilizing legs at the bottom of the oven can be flipped up for easy transport, although they don’t seem to lock into place when lifted, making it a little awkward to carry around.

Once we got it perfectly in place, the instructions were clear and it didn’t take long to get the oven ready to fire. Although I’m always up for a freshly baked pizza, I’m not always the best at cooking, so I left the cooking to my much more skilled friend.

Monique said: “The gas unit was easy to install, but it took a while for the gas to penetrate the unit and ignite it. In the end it took 35 minutes to get the oven hot enough to cook.” The powerful burner heats the oven up to 500 degrees (950 F), so it’s not surprising that it can take a while to reach that temperature.”

However, once it was done, the pizza party really began. With just a few ingredients, we could all enjoy a deliciously crispy pizza in no time.

Monique shared her secret: “I used a semolina base instead of flour which meant it didn’t stick. My main tip would be to turn the turntable off before you put the pizza on or take it off the plate.”

The unique 13″ pizza stone, designed to make cooking easier, rotates without manual intervention. The cordierite stone retains and distributes extreme heat, allowing you to cook pizza at much higher oven temperatures in minutes.

Cordierite, unlike other materials, does not crack in high heat and the rotating design ensures an evenly cooked pizza. This model also includes an additional ceramic plate.

Those mouth-watering pizzas are ready in no time, literally blink and you’ve burned it. In about a minute, all the fillings were ready – baked on a stone, but not charcoal-grilled.

Delicious pizza

This oven is AVPN certified, making it the first and only rotary pizza oven to be certified by the Italian authority for Neapolitan pizza making.

After enjoying the pizza, it was time to hit the road, satisfied and full of the best Italian delicacies.

This time we chose only traditional pizza recipes, but according to the site, the oven can also prepare roasted vegetables, roast meat, hamburgers, wings, side dishes, stews, pies and even crumbs.

Our Verdict: I thought the pizza was delicious and perfectly cooked throughout. However, our head pizza chef Monique felt that while it was an excellent piece of equipment, the three-legged design didn’t seem particularly stable and the ceramic plate was difficult to clean.

Monique also suggested that the unit could definitely benefit from an interior light to monitor the pizza cooking process.

Aside from those points, this unique little pizza oven earned a solid four out of five, making simple pizza making the perfect excuse for quality time together.

As a devoted fan of all things pizza, I am also the proud owner of Gozney Arc. Although slightly more expensive than the Revolve version and lacking a turntable, the Gozney is another great option for other pizza lovers.
