Dresden’s Carola Bridge is considered a vital transport artery across the Elbe River in the heart of the city. Now, part of the structure collapsed in the middle of the night, and it’s clear that the city barely escaped disaster. Every day, dozens of cars, trams, and cyclists pass over the structure, one of the city’s four Elbe bridges. There are also pedestrians. However, according to the authorities’ current understanding, there were no injuries or deaths as a result of the collapse. “We are currently assuming it was an accident and there is no evidence of external influence,” a police official said.
