PAN Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez attacked those who criticized the reform that moved the National Guard to Sedena and assured that he would vote in favor of the decision, because he does not see a risk of militarization in the country.

Yunes Márquez, who a few weeks ago caused controversy by giving the losing vote to Morena and its allies to approve judicial reform, indicated that the threat of a military dictatorship never existed.

After his intervention, the Veracruz native agreed that the Armed Forces needed to support state and municipal police in combating crime. “Can anyone really insist that the fight against organized crime can only be done with local police and without the support of the TNI?” asked the PAN member.

He also agreed that the process of rebuilding the police corporation was an expensive and slow process, but it had to be done.

At the end of his speech, Yunes Márquez praised Omar García Harfuch, the next Minister of Security, and assured that he is the most suitable profile, since he has knowledge of security issues. “(…) a strategy determined by a secretariat, which will be led by a civilian, our comrade, who has more than proven knowledge in public security issues. For all the above, in full freedom and confidence, I will vote in favor of the decision,” stressed Miguel Ángel Yunes.
