Huawei was reportedly set to develop a triple-foldable smartphone in July. There was speculation that the move would give the Chinese company a boost in the foldable smartphone segment, especially in competition with other brands like Samsung and Xiaomi. Now, the alleged triple-foldable smartphone has reportedly been spotted in the hands of a senior Huawei official. The tipster suggests that it matches a prototype that the company has developed as part of its research and development.

According to a report by Android Headlines, the Huawei tri-fold smartphone was spotted in the hands of Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group. It appears to have a large internal screen that can be folded three times.

On Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) suggested that the device is similar to the R&D prototype they previously had access to. Additionally, the smartphone is said to have a 10-inch internal display, and the cutout for the front camera is located on the leftmost side of the screen.

It is also speculated to be of “average” thickness despite being a tri-foldable smartphone. The alleged Huawei phone could be powered by the Kirin 9 series processor, which was previously speculated to power the upcoming Huawei Mate 70 series in China. This is one of the latest processors introduced by the Chinese smartphone maker.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) in July, insider Ice Universe suggested that Huawei could become the first company in the world to launch a tri-foldable smartphone. Samsung, which has one of the longest-running foldable smartphone series on the market, was reportedly left behind due to its problems in making thinner standard foldable phones. At the time, the insider suggested that Huawei “will have no competitors for a long time after its launch.”
