Peace lilies are known for being easy to care for, but getting them to bloom isn’t always a walk in the park if you don’t understand their needs.
Peace lilies do not require much effort to maintain, as they are happy with dry soil and can thrive in most lighting conditions.
However, they will not produce their own white flowers unless you take the time to provide them with everything they need to flourish.
Although indoor plant food for peace lilies can be used to fertilize these houseplants, one plant expert claimed that using rice flour would make the peace lily “explode with so many flowers.”
Rice is packed with a number of different nutrients, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, iron and sulfur, making it a fantastic peace for lilies.
The gardening and houseplant expert posted the video on her YouTube account Plant Tips: “Great result, grow a peace lily with one cup of rice flour, so many flowers explode.”
In the video, the expert started by showing the end result of the fertilizing tip, which presents more than nine healthy and bright white blooms of the peace lily.
The expert then showed how the peace lily looked from the tip and the plant was withered, had no blooms and was full of dead leaves.
To remedy this, the specialist removed the peace lily from the container, repotted it, and repotted the plant with a potting mix consisting of perlite, coconut coir, soil, rice husks, and fertilizer.
The herbalist started by mixing water with a cup of rice flour to create a thin solution, which was then used to clean the leaves. Next, the rice water mixture was poured over the plant’s potting mix.
Two months later, the peace lily had sprouted two blooms and the leaves were noticeably greener.
The expert continued to moisten the peace lily with a rice flour solution and even used it in a spray bottle to mist the top of the plant.
After three months, the peace lily was full of flowers and looking healthier than ever.
Although the expert did not specify how often the peace lily should be watered with the rice flour solution, it is recommended to use it sparingly. Because of the risk of starch build-up, it’s best to apply rice water to your plants only once a month.
When not using rice water, they should be given regular tap water or rainwater.
