The savvy woman has been hailed as a hero for revealing her spider-repelling technique, which she claims is a sure-fire way to keep the shots away.
Lucy Kalice, who took to social media to show how she keeps unwanted spiders at bay, racked up 121,000 likes in no time.
In her TikTok clip, she explains: “If you hate spiders, this video is for you. I’m trying to spider-proof my house with tea tree oil. Apparently you’re supposed to use peppermint oil, but I didn’t have any on hand, but tea tree oil does the same job.”
In the video, Lucy dabs oil on a cotton pad and then diligently cleans around the doors and windows. She says, “I did the back door, the front door and then I moved on to the windows. You may or may not know it’s spider season right now. I’m reminded of this daily and spiders are popping up. everywhere, I hope this works.”
Pest UK, the creepy crawlies experts, confirm that autumn is the best time for spiders to seek the safety of their homes in search of cozy corners.
They support Lucy’s household trick and agree on their site: “Strong scents are a natural way to keep spiders out of your home. Scents like lemon, lime, oranges and anything with a strong citrus aroma will help repel spiders. Also eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil or peppermint oil.
“Vinegar is another strong aroma that can scare away spiders, but not everyone likes the smell of vinegar in their home. To keep these eight-legged intruders away, it is recommended to rub or spray areas such as windowsills and doorways with these scents.
Reacting to Lucy’s video, one viewer shared: “Tea tree oil wash and water in a spray bottle works every time – best thing for spiders ever.” Another shouted: “I saw four yesterday in the same area in the living room in 15 minutes, one was bigger than the palm of my hand. I hope I was exaggerating.”
Meanwhile, a third person commented: “Every strand of hair that tickles my face or neck makes me immediately think there’s a spider on me.” Another added: “I did this and washed my whole house with peppermint oil after I had two monsters in my house.” And yet another person said: “I dealt with four monstrous spiders and ordered oil for next day delivery. I’ve had enough.”
