Washing windows can often feel like a day-long chore, causing many of us to put off this annoying chore. But there is a clever home method that promises to brighten up your glasses in no time and without frustrating streaks.
On the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, fans have been swapping stories of their best window cleaning projects.
Miriam Ahhmed couldn’t wait to share her gratitude and wrote: “I want to thank every member of this group who posted about cleaning windows without staining.
“I used to use Elbow Grease window and glass cleaner with kitchen roll – big mistake. It always left stains, especially when the sun was shining.”
Changing tactics, he said, “I then tried washing the liquid with hot water in a spray bottle and a squeegee, and that gave me streak-free, shiny windows.”
In less than sixty seconds, her living room window was transformed, and the results were nothing short of amazing.
Miriam beamed and said, “It took me less than a minute to clean the entire living room window and the results were amazing. I’m so happy right now and can’t wait to finish the rest of the house.”
Other cleaning enthusiasts quickly found similar success. Sally Fallon revealed: “I’ve started making mine with water and dish soap and it’s amazing.”
Maryann Black swears by the same trick on mirrors, claiming: “I also use detergent on mirrors. I just use the cheapest Morrisons washing up liquid which is 55p. The only thing that works.”
Dean Scott, who has worked in the window cleaning business for over a decade and a half, advised ditching all the fancy products and old wives tales like vinegar. He recommended sticking to dishwashing liquid, a microfiber cloth and a squeegee.
Mirrors can also benefit from this simple solution, as Debbie Nugent said: “I use this method all the time too, but it works for mirrors too.”
Linda Doyle boasted, “I wash my windows this way and get them done in no time.”
But other followers of Mrs. Hinch believe that if you have top-of-the-line microfiber cloths, you can soak up the chemicals even in dishwashing detergent.
Abigail Adams commented on her Marigold microfiber cloth: “Agree 100 percent. No chemicals, just water and this fabric. Windows looks perfect.”
In agreement, Lisa Simon stated: “This fabric is amazing. I haven’t found anything so wonderful.”
