Shower doors often get dirty due to accumulated soap scum and hard water stains that stick to the glass and are difficult to remove even if you scrub them.

Hard water stains, also known as limescale, are water-based minerals that have accumulated over time on shower walls from a cloudy residue that stubbornly clings to the surface.

However, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on cleaning products, as CRD Design Build expert Eric Thomas says the best way to get rid of limescale is to use simple lemon juice.

Eric said, “The citric acid in lemon juice is very good at dissolving minerals. You can squeeze several lemons to make lemon juice or just buy a bottle of lemon juice at the grocery store.

Lemon juice is very effective in cleaning glass naturally due to its acidity as it naturally breaks down alkaline limescale and soap so it can be easily wiped off without scrubbing.

It is also great to use lemon juice as it is a safe natural product without having to resort to harsh chemicals that can scratch the shower glass.

How to clean shower walls and remove limescale with lemon juice.

You will need:

  • Lemon juice
  • Empty spray bottle
  • Clean cloths
  • Soft sponge (optional)
  • Baking soda (optional)

Method:

All you have to do is put the lemon juice in an empty spray bottle with warm water, screw the cap on, and shake the bottle to mix it.

Spray the solution all over the glass wall of the shower and then let it sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the lemon juice to break down the mineral deposits.

After the time is up, wipe the lemon juice off the screen with a clean wet cloth and then polish it with a dry cloth.

If the stains are particularly stubborn, gently scrub the lime with a sponge, and you can also mix lemon juice with baking soda to make a paste to help clean the glass quickly.

Eric said, “Baking soda works especially well for removing soap scum, but when used alone, it’s less effective at removing hard water stains.”

Baking soda alone cannot dissolve limescale, but when mixed with lemon juice, it creates a chemical reaction that bubbles and loosens the limescale, making cleaning much easier.

Thanks to this highly effective natural cleaning solution, the shower screen glass should now be lime-free with no cloudy or foggy spots.
