Early in the morning, warning sirens sounded across central Israel. According to the military, a ballistic missile launched from Yemen toward Israel had been intercepted. The bullet landed in an uninhabited area.

A rocket from the Iran-aligned Yemeni Houthi militia reached central Israel this morning. The Israeli military said the bullet struck an uninhabited area at 6:35 a.m. local time, and there were no reports of injuries or damage.

Sirens sounded across Tel Aviv and central Israel moments before the rockets struck, sending residents seeking shelter. The explosions were said by military officials to have been caused by interceptor missiles.

Images from Israeli media also showed people rushing to shelters at Ben Gurion Airport, which soon resumed normal operations, according to airport officials.

There have been several shellings since the outbreak of the war.

Nasruddin Amer, deputy head of the Houthi rebel media office, claimed in a post on X that Yemeni missiles had reached Israel after “20 missiles failed to be intercepted.”

The photo showed smoke rising from a central field. It was initially unclear whether the fire was caused by the missile itself or debris from an interceptor missile, according to media reports.

The attack appears to be the first time the Houthis have used missiles deep into Israeli airspace. Since the Gaza war began in October, the Houthis have fired several shots into Israel in a show of solidarity with the Palestinians.

A Houthi drone arrived in Tel Aviv in July.

Most of these missiles were shot down. But one strike occurred in March on an empty field near the Israeli Red Sea port of Eilat. In July, a Houthi drone struck Tel Aviv, killing one person and wounding four. That attack led to Israel launching a massive airstrike on Houthi targets near the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, killing six and wounding 80.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said that a total of 40 bullets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel this morning. They were intercepted or landed in open areas. No injuries were reported.
