Tottenham Hotspur Football Club admitted mistakes were made by some of its fans after a 3-0 away win over Manchester United in the English Premier League. “The club is aware of vile homophobic chants from some of our fans outside our stadium at Old Trafford today. This is simply unacceptable, extremely offensive and is not a way to show support for the team,” the London Premier League club wrote in a statement about these incidents.
The statement added that the club will work closely with the police and supervisors to identify the perpetrators and take “the most stringent measures.” The club also announced that it wants to continue working with the Proud Lilywhites LGBTQ+ Supporters Association. “We are rightly proud of our amazing and loyal support, at home and abroad. However, we all have a responsibility to act as ambassadors for Tottenham Hotspur, and discrimination of any kind has no place at our club.”
