HMD becomes official smartphone partner of FC Barcelona

HMD has just announced that it is becoming the official smartphone partner of FC Barcelona. The company will support the men’s club and the women’s team Barcelona Femeni.

The announcement also revealed that the partnership will include teams from other sports, including basketball, futsal, handball and roller hockey.

The partnership was unveiled by Saul Peregrina, the hairdresser of Lamine Yamal, a 17-year-old prodigy and future star of the Catalan team. The hairdresser cut out the HMD logo next to the Barcelona crest, formally announcing the partnership.

The deal initially runs for three years and will see HMD advertise its smartphones on digital panels at the Olympic Stadium, where FC Barcelona currently plays. When the team moves to its renovated home at Camp Nou, the ads will also appear there.

The partnership will later be expanded to include “a range of digital content designed to satisfy fans and maintain a high level of visibility for the partnership,” reads an official press release.

Before HMD, FC Barcelona had another smartphone partner, Oppo. There have been a number of FC Barcelona-themed Oppo phones, including the F1 Plus and Reno 10x Zoom, but recently the Chinese smartphone maker partnered with UEFA to promote its devices during the Champions League tournament.
