Beirut
For the first time since the announcement of the start of the Israeli ground offensive in Lebanon, the Shiite Hezbollah militia announced direct combat with Israeli ground forces there. Hezbollah explained that they tried to enter the Lebanese town of Al-Adissa directly on the border with Israel. Its members “fought” the Israeli infantry forces at dawn and forced them to retreat. There were casualties on the Israeli side.
The Israeli army did not initially comment on the alleged ground fighting.
