At the “Schlemmer Atlas” industry conference in the “northernmost city in Italy”, Notte Italiana is highlighted by the organizer, Managing Director of Verlagshaus Busche, Johannes Großpietsch. The 100 best Italian restaurants in Germany were selected at the Charles Hotel. These include some Munich gastropubs such as Il Gattopardo, Osteria der Katzlmacher or Acquarello in Bogenhausen.
“I’ve been doing what I love my whole life: cooking! This year we’re celebrating our 30th anniversary,” says star chef Mario Gamba.
Heidi Beckenbauer praised Lothar Matthäus.
In addition, football icon Lothar Matthäus was awarded a special “German-Italian Friendship” award. Heidi Beckenbauer, who gave the eulogy together with Susanne Schaefer, enthused: “Lothar was a defining figure in German and international football and will forever be one of the great figures in history.”
Matthäus was in good spirits and joked with AZ about his five marriages. “I had a connection with Italy very early on, I played for Inter Milan from 1988 to 1992 and with my stepfather Franz Beckenbauer (†78, ed.) and my friend Andreas Brehme (†63), I had the best relationships in Italy. “I spent my time in sport and experienced the greatest success. Of course, women also influenced me and I married an Italian… but there are other countries too.”
Lothar Matthäus jokes about his ex-wife: “Longer than one marriage or another.”
Even now, he is always happy when he goes to Italy. “Fashion, dolce vita, sun. When I was young, I loved salami pizza.” Today, he enjoys it with onions and tuna. Matthäus jokes again: “I have not lost my love for Italy over the years. And it has lasted a little longer than this or that marriage.”
Susanne Schaefer, Andi Brehme’s partner, described her friendship with Beckenbauer’s widow Heidi over lobster foam soup, summer truffle risotto and Balpego tuna sashimi (both football heroes died earlier this year). “Common suffering unites us!”
Beetle Widow Uschi Ackermann: “Shared Trouble is Halved”
Uschi Ackermann nodded in agreement. “Or: A pain shared is a pain halved.” Her late husband, the grocer Gerd Käfer (†82), also received an award from the Busche publishing house. “These events are always very well organized and on a top level,” she said.
