The United Right camp is looking for the perfect candidate to replace Andrzej Duda. According to unofficial information, such a person could have been Radosław Piesiewicz.
Piesiewicz blamed for poor start in Paris
The president of the Polish Olympic Committee is young, educated and has a good image in the media. After the Paris Olympics, he was also associated with success.
But it didn’t work out. The Summer Olympics in the French capital were, to say the least, unsuccessful for Polish athletes. Some media outlets, especially those in power, blame Piesiewicz for this state of affairs. After all, it is the Polish Olympic Committee that supervises and is responsible for preparing athletes for the Games.
In this way, Piesiewicz became a symbol of the failure of Polish sport. This is a serious stain on his image. With this history, it may be difficult for him to remain among the potential candidates for the country’s highest office. No party will choose a person who will be associated with failure.
Piesiewicz and his family used services intended for Olympic athletes
Furthermore, Piesiewicz’s image could be tarnished by the scandal surrounding the use by him and his family of VIP services at Warsaw’s Okęcie airport for Polish Olympic athletes.
“Radio ZET” reports the case. According to this source, Piesiewicz has used the VIP package in “Okęcie” as many as 35 times since his election as head of the Polish Olympic Committee, i.e. since April 2023. As part of the service, aircraft passengers can wait in exclusive rooms, enjoy unlimited hot snacks and meals, and be taken to the plane by airport staff in a limousine. This privilege costs PLN 1,600. PLN for the first person and PLN 1,000 for the next person.
Olympic athletes did not use VIP services in Okęcie
According to “Radio ZET”, Piesiewicz and his family enjoyed such luxuries when he paid off the service under a barter agreement between the Polish Olympic Committee and the PLL. VIP check-in was requested by Piesiewicz on flights to, among others, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Zurich, Dubai, Athens, Budapest, London, Gdańsk, as well as on return routes from these cities to Warsaw.
What is most shocking in this case is that the service that was supposed to serve Polish athletes was never used by them.
