Prince Harry has been effusive about his children as he celebrated his 40th birthday on Sunday. The second son of King Charles III said: “Being a father to two incredibly kind and funny children has given me a new perspective on life and has helped me focus on everything I do,” he said in a statement to the BBC.
“Being a father is one of life’s greatest joys, and it makes me more motivated and committed to making this world a better place.”
The fifth in line to the British throne wants to celebrate his birthday at his home in California with his wife, Duchess Meghan (43), son Prince Archie (5) and daughter Princess Lilibet (3). He will then head off on holiday with close friends.
“I’m looking forward to my 40s”
Harry said he was “nervous about turning 30, but I’m looking forward to turning 40.” Ten years ago, after having just broken up with his then-girlfriend, he founded the Invictus Games, a competition for disabled soldiers following his military campaign in Afghanistan.
Now he emphasizes: “No matter how old I get, my mission is to continue to be present in the world and do good.” The Duke of Sussex looks forward positively to the future, as his official title suggests: “Leading the next decade.”
The family moved to the US a few years ago, and Harry and Meghan have since stopped performing royal duties. Instead, they are involved in charities. They make money from documentaries for streaming giant Netflix. Prince Harry has also published a biography that is harshly critical of the royal family.
