Actress Maggie Smith, known as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter saga, died this Friday morning (27). He is 89 years old.
The information was confirmed on social media by Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, the artist’s sons:
“It is with great sadness that we report the death of Maggie Smith. He died peacefully, in hospital, on Friday morning (27). As a very private person, he was with his family and friends until the end. “She leaves behind two beloved children and five grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their wonderful mother and grandmother,” the statement said.
Born in Essex, England, in 1934, the artist gained great fame in the 1950s, when he made his stage debut at the Oxford Playhouse. She consolidated her theater career in England before venturing into films in 1960, winning the Oscar for Best Actress in 1969 for “Spring of a Spinster.”
Other notable works by this veteran include “Change of Habit” (1992), “Downtown Abbey” (2010) and “A Senhora da Van” (2015). During his career, he won two Oscars, four Emmys, three Golden Globes, one Tony and seven Baftas.
