Green Party leaders Lang and Nouripour have announced their resignations, speaking of the party’s “deepest crisis in a decade.” They will remain in office until the next party conference.
The Greens leadership is facing personnel consequences after the party’s failures in several elections. Co-chairs Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour announced the resignation of the party’s entire executive board.
The party conference in November must elect a new leadership. Until then, Nouripour and Lang will remain in office.
The decision comes after a series of serious electoral defeats for the party. In last Sunday’s election in Brandenburg, the Greens failed to clear the five percent barrier and are therefore no longer represented in the Brandenburg state parliament.
