Thailand.- Google said on Monday that it will invest $1 billion in Thailand to build a data center and a so-called cloud region to meet the growing demand for such systems and support the adoption of artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia.
Google said, citing a study on the project conducted by Deloitte, that the investment will create an average of 14,000 job opportunities annually by 2029.
In May, Microsoft said it would launch its first regional data center in Thailand as part of its efforts to boost cloud services. “Google’s cloud and data center infrastructure in Bangkok and Chonburi will help meet growing demand for Google Cloud’s capabilities, AI innovations, and the company’s popular digital services such as Search, Maps, and Google Workspace,” the company said.
Its data center will be located in an industrial park in Chonburi, while Google’s cloud park, which consists of hardware and software dedicated to providing services to public and private sector entities, will be in the capital, Bangkok.
Thai Prime Minister Paitongtarn Shinawatra said Google’s investment is “fully consistent” with the country’s cloud-first policy.
