The winners of this award from the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium media forum were announced on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in Potsdam. Potsdam Mayor Mike Schubert emphasized that Tusk and Osmani are irreplaceable defenders of a democratic and free society. Tusk was praised for his “steadfast fight against autocracy,” while Osmani was praised for his “determination and vision in defending the young democracy in a region marked by conflict.”
When will Tusk receive the award?
The award ceremony will take place September 12 in Potsdamand the keynote speaker will be the Chancellor Olavo Scholz.
Previously, Navalny received the award
The M100 Media Prize, presented since 2005, honours those who are committed to promoting European understanding and press freedom. Previous winners include: Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalnyformer German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, the Ukrainian nation and the women’s resistance movement in Iran.
During the M100 Sanssouci Colloquium conference, during which the prize is awarded, media editors-in-chief, scientists, politicians and civil society representatives will discuss, among others: the effects of disinformation and Europe’s defence capabilities in the context war in Ukraine.
