The Gemini app for iOS and Android is getting artificial intelligence (AI) agents called Gems. These custom chatbots were first made available to users on the web version of Gemini in August. The company is now rolling them out to the mobile app as well, allowing users to create and use chatbots designed for specific purposes. In addition to adding Gems, Google has also redesigned the homepage on the web and mobile versions of Gemini.
Gemini app gets gems
Gadgets 360 has noticed that Gems are now available in the Gemini app for Android. The addition of this feature reportedly also slightly changes the look of the app. Instead of Last section where users can see suggestions and recently used prompts, this area displays the title Chat and gems.
Screenshots of the new feature also reveal how it looks in the app. To access Gems, users need to click on their profile icon located in the top right corner of the screen. The new Gem Manager the option is visible under Extensions option.
Clicking on it will bring up three tabs — All, Your Gems, and By Google. The second option will show you custom AI agents created by the user, while the third option will show you the default Gems created by the tech giant. These include Learning coach, Brainstormer, Career guide, Writing editor, and Coding partner.
Gems can be understood as a miniature version of Gemini. It contains a limited set of data that is relevant to its purpose. Once created, Gems can process prompts faster and with greater accuracy than a general chatbot. Interestingly, Gems are only available to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
In addition to adding AI agents to the mobile app, Google is also redesigning the Gemini homepage in both the app and the web client. In the current version, opening the interface displays a welcome message and the text “How can I help you today?” in a large font. Then, a few quick suggestions appear in a carousel.
However, the new homepage only adds the text “How can I help?” in a smaller font. The interface is minimalistic and does not overwhelm the user with information. Suggested prompts, as well as the option to start a new chat, are placed in the chat icon located in the upper left corner.
