Mississippi Delta Blues Bar RJ, which has just turned 7 years old, will be the stage for one of the most unusual events of the season: Gamboa in Blues – a special edition of Moinho Fluminense. The festival promises four intense weekends of Blues, Rock, Soul, Funk, Folk and Country. Among the main attractions will be the finalist of The Voice in his country, Siki Jo-An from South Africa. Among the Brazilians there will be local bands: Buraco Blues, Caravana Cigana do Blues, A Banda, Mokambo, DKings and there will also be a free show by A Nuvem, which will be part of the Gamboa de Portos Abertos project. Toyo Bagoso, creator of the event and owner of Mississippi, located in front of the Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture, highlights the historical importance of the area called Little Africa, transforming it into a cultural and social meeting point that celebrates both the past and the present of the area. “Mississippi RJ could be in any neighborhood in the city, but they believe in the revitalization of this very rich and important area for Brazilian history. Through the Gamboa in Blues edition we hope to draw the attention of the public and the community to Little Africa, telling more about the virtues of this place. I consider that Samba, which was born here, is more similar to the Blues of the Mississippi Delta than to Jazz itself, to which all Brazilians tend to compare it”, affirms Toyo. In previous editions, the following have performed on the Mississippi RJ stage: bassist Bob Stroger from Chicago, Indian harmonica player Aki Kumar, English Chris Jagger (Mick Jagger’s brother), Ian Siegal also from England, among many other unforgettable artists.

MISSISSIPPI DELTA BLUES BAR RJ
Opened in August 2017, Mississippi Delta Blues Bar is the first themed house dedicated exclusively to Blues and its aspects in Rio de Janeiro. Installed in a 19th century townhouse in Gamboa, the venue has earned its place in Rio’s nightlife with its high-level music program, reminiscent of the southern American bars called juke joint. The port area was chosen because it is the birthplace of African heritage in Brazil and has a strong identity with black culture. The mansion was recently painted with graffiti by artist Tito Ferrara in a Volkswagen project throughout the nation’s capital. Themed drinks, southern American cuisine, Kentucky bourbon and Bluesmobilia are the attractions besides this small temple that focuses on music that comes from North America but also makes room for Brazilian and other national roots.
