Superstar Sunny Deol on Sunday called Gadar 2 the “revolution” of his life and thanked fans for showing love to the blockbuster film on its one-year release date.
Also starring Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma, the Hindi film is a sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 was released in theaters on August 11, 2023.
Set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war, the film was one of the highest grossing Hindi films of last year, grossing over Rs 600 crore at the box office worldwide.
In an Instagram post, Deol wrote, “1 year of the revolution in my life ‘#Gadar2’. The love you all showed from across the world, the way you made the release a festival, the way you celebrated Tara Singh and her family whose theaters turned into carnivals was and will be unmatched for a long time.” It also marked Deol’s return as one of Bollywood’s original action stars from the 1990s.
“Your love has injected new life into all of us and this success is yours. Love Tara Singh #1YearOfGadar2 #HindustanKiAsliBlockbuster,” he added.
In Gadar 2, Deol’s Tara Singh returns to Pakistan to rescue her captured son Charanjeet ‘Jeete’ Singh (played by Utkarsh Sharma) during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The first film took place during the section.
Patel, who reprized her role as Sakina in the sequel, also expressed her gratitude to the fans.
“And just like that ‘GADAR 2’ -“HINDUSTAN KA ASLI BLOCKBUSTER” completes its first year! Thanks to everyone who made it a TSUNAMI at the box office!! Congratulations to the team of GADAR 2 n SAKINA’s heartbeat TARA @iamsunnydeol (sic) ),” he wrote on Instagram to their Stories account.
In an X message, Sharma described Gadar 2 as a “human sensation” that took cinemas by storm.
“…memories of that day get stronger in every body’s mind ..n it goes on., thx audience (sic)” wrote the director and called the movie the organic blockbuster of all time.
The film was backed by Zee Studios.
