The Disciplinary Committee of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) punished former football star Samuel Eto’o with a fine after an incident that occurred during the U-20 Women’s World Cup. The current president of the Cameroonian federation FECAFOOT is not allowed to attend his country’s matches for six months. FIFA announced this on Monday.
According to FIFA, the reason for the suspension is a violation of two FIFA rules, which include insults and misconduct by officials. The incident, which has not been described in further detail and is now punishable, occurred during the U-20 World Cup Round of 16 match between Brazil and Cameroon on September 11, 2024 in Bogotá. The Brazilians won 3-1 in stoppage time.
According to the statement, Eto’o was informed that the penalty would take effect. The 43-year-old has won the Champions League as a player with Barcelona and Inter Milan, among others.
