Pegasus Investigation Committee resumes its work
The hearings in the investigative committees are beginning.The Investigation Commission also resumes its work to examine the legality, regularity and purpose of the operational and reconnaissance activities carried out, among others, using the Pegasus software. According to the information provided on the official website of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18. The public hearing will begin at 10:00 and at 15:00, testimony will be given in a closed session.
Who will be questioned about Pegasus?
Piotr Pogonowski was summoned for questioning. The former head of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) will testify “in ongoing proceedings aimed at examining the legality, regularity and purposefulness of the operational and reconnaissance activities carried out, among others, using Pegasus software by members of the Council of Ministers, secret services, the Police, and the fiscal control authorities and customs and tax authorities, the authorities responsible for the repression of crimes and the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the period from November 16, 2015 to November 20, 2023. – as we read in the statement announcing the meeting of the commission.
Who is Piotr Pogonowski?
Piotr Pogonowski is the former head of the Homeland Security Agency, having served in the civil service since 1999. In 2003-2005 he was the chief expert on case law of the Supreme Court. In 2006-2007 he served as the director of the Office of Legal Services and Legal Representation of the Ministry of Finance, and until 2008 he was the director of the Legal Office of the Military Intelligence Service. In 2008-2010 he held the position of director of the office of the head of the Internal Security Agency. In October 2015, Prime Minister Beata Szydło entrusted him with the duties of head of the Internal Security Agency, and in 2016 he became head of the agency. He held this position until 2020, being responsible, among other things, for protecting the economic interests of the state. Media reports show that after taking over the reins of the ABW, within about a dozen months he was promoted from the rank of ABW corporal to the rank of ABW colonel. In January 2020, he resigned from his post. A month later, he was appointed Chairman as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Poland. He has held this position since March 1, 2020.
