French professional footballer Raphaël Varane has announced his immediate retirement. The 31-year-old 2018 world champion only moved from Manchester United to Italian newcomers Como 1907 on a free transfer in the summer. Due to a persistent knee problem, Varane has not made a single Serie A appearance.
Varane announced on Instagram “with great pride and satisfaction my retirement from the game we all love.”
Having had to deal with physical problems in recent years, the defender, who won the Champions League four times at Real Madrid, now wants to continue working for Como in a different role.
