Following a fire at a factory in Doubs, action was taken to assess the risk of pollution

Friday evening, around sixty firefighters, five vans and chemical and technological risk vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire affecting this plant classified for environmental protection (ICPE). The fire destroyed three production lines using electroplating, a process that aims to cover an object with a layer of metal. The intervention of firefighters resulted in the interruption of electricity supply, which resulted in the closure of the wastewater treatment plant connected to the factory.

The risk of air pollution is ruled out

“The retention tank has overflowed. “There was a water spill in a small river next door, which flows several hundred meters into the Doubs,” explained Saadia Tamelikecht, the prefect’s chief of staff. “This morning we assigned OFB to make a report on river pollution. “The luck we had yesterday was that with the rainfall, the Doubs had increased to five times the flow rate in the morning,” he said, referring to the reduced risk thanks to dilution.
