The forecasts are not overly alarming; today there is no reason to predict events on a scale that would pose a threat to the entire country; there is no reason to panic, Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured in Wrocław. He noted that local flooding or so-called flash floods.
It is obvious that this situation cannot be underestimated, but I would like to say that today there is no reason to predict events on a scale that poses a threat to the entire country. If there is anything we can expect – and we want to be prepared for it – it is, of course, localized floods or so-called flash floods, i.e. localized floods in some place.
– said the Prime Minister after a meeting with the services on the flood threat in Lower Silesia.
The Prime Minister assured that the weather forecasts “are not excessively alarming”.
Of course we don’t ignore any signs
– he observed, referring to the situation in 1997.
We want to be perfectly prepared for these events.
– he assured.
“We are incomparably better prepared than in previous years.”
We are incomparably better prepared than in previous years, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in Wrocław after a briefing with the services on the threat of flooding in the region.
The head of government announced that in the morning he received a report from the voivodes of the voivodeships most at risk of flooding: Lesser Poland, Opole, Lower Silesia, Lubusz and Silesia.
We are incomparably better prepared than in previous years
– said the Prime Minister. He assured the full readiness and readiness to act of the State services, the Territorial Defence Forces, the Polish Army, the Fire Service, the Police and those responsible for emergency situations.
He calculated that in Małopolska alone 2 million sandbags were prepared in warehouses, and in Lower Silesia – one million such bags. He also emphasized that “thousands of soldiers” were mobilized.
Siemoniak: State Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Department are on high alert
The State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service are on high alert due to the threat of flooding in the region, the head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration said during a briefing of the services with the participation of the Prime Minister, which took place at the Voivodeship Office in Wrocław. He also called for listening to the messages of the services and authorities.
The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Tomasz Siemoniak, stressed that the services received meteorological data about the impending rains, and the Prime Minister ordered them to take quick action, so meetings have been underway since Wednesday evening, all resources in the voivodeships and services have been reviewed and their mobilization has taken place.
Siemoniak called for people to listen to the messages that will be transmitted through social media and through RCB alerts.
We are in close cooperation with local governments, starostas and district crisis management centers, especially in places where we expect more crisis situations.
– said the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
He also said that the State Fire Department, the Volunteer Fire Department and the police are on full alert.
The voivodes have received an order from the Prime Minister that this is the absolutely most important issue at the moment, a priority and all other things take a back seat for these two or three days. We hope that these mobilized funds will be sufficient. If not, we will have firefighters and the army centrally from other provinces, so that all citizens can feel safe in this danger zone.
– emphasized Siemoniak.
Prime Minister: No one will make the mistake of 2010
Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that today no one will make the same mistake as the 2010 floods, when “the weekend was a bit delayed” and on Monday a large part of the country was submerged.
The head of the Government stated in a press conference, after a briefing with the services regarding the threat of floods, that given the current meteorological threat, it will not be like the floods of 2010, when “the weekend was, in a sense, a bit of a sleepy one.”
Then on Friday we said goodbye, reassured by the not-so-worse forecasts, and on Monday a large part of the country was already submerged, so no one will make that mistake today.
– said the Prime Minister.
There is no reason to panic today, but there is reason to be fully mobilized so that, in places where drama may occur, everyone can count on the fastest and most effective help possible.
– Tusk pointed.
He emphasized that there are very large reserves in most retention reservoirs.
In the next few dozen hours, these tanks will neither be full nor overflowing. This infrastructure will certainly perform much better than ever before.
– assured the Prime Minister.
At the same time, he added that equipment has been prepared for “direct operation”, that is, mobile pumps that will be able to pump 2 thousand tons of water per minute throughout the country.
