Tomorrow we should find out what price will eventually replace WEBOR as part of the benchmark index reform. This was according to a statement on Monday by Tadeusz Bialek, President of the Polish Banking Association, who heads the work of the National Working Group dealing with the reform. A meeting of this body is scheduled to be held tomorrow.
The decision to replace WIBOR with a new rate was made more than two years ago. This was announced in the spring of 2022, during a cycle of interest rate hikes that pushed mortgage rates to record levels by then-Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Loans with variable interest rates dominate the Polish market, based on WIBOR.
