In the search for RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, the police intend to post a new video on the TV program “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” on Wednesday evening (8:15 p.m.). “The video allegedly shows Burkhard Garweg,” says a statement from the ZDF format producer. The contribution was integrated into the broadcast at short notice.

Since 2015, the Verden prosecutor’s office has been investigating Daniela Klette, Ernst-Volker Staub and Garweg on suspicion of attempted murder and several counts of attempted aggravated robbery. They allegedly robbed cash transporters and supermarkets in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia to finance their underground life.

Klete was arrested in late February this year in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where he lived under an assumed name. “During the arrest, weapons, fake passports, a beard, gold, a mobile phone and computer files were found,” the wanted notice reads. “Among other things, this includes information about the planned attack, data on where the three were staying, and a video from the apartment. The material will be shown today in the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved.”

The three men belonged to the so-called third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF), which declared itself disbanded in 1998 after claiming more than 30 lives.

“Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” is one of the most successful German TV formats. More than 5 million people watch the channel regularly.
