When the Fairphone 5 launched in late August 2023, it cost €700/£650 for the 8/256GB unit – the only configuration available at the time. Now, the company is introducing a more affordable version and a new colour scheme.
The Fairphone 5 now comes in a 6/128GB version, which costs €550/£500 (note: in some regions the online store shows a price of €500). The original 8/256GB version is still available and has even been reduced to €630/£570. The phone has a microSD slot, so expanding the memory is easy. However, Fairphone is promising support until 2030, and by then 6GB of RAM will probably seem pretty small.
Fairphone 5 (6/128 GB) in new Moss Green and old Matte Black
The new color version is Moss Green and is only available in the 6/128GB configuration. Alternatively, you can opt for the Matte Black option. The Sky Blue and Transparent editions are only available in the 8/256GB configuration.
Both versions of the Fairphone 5 can be found on the company’s online store . The old Fairphone 4 is still available for €450/£420, but you’re probably better off opting for the Fairphone 5 with 6/128GB of storage. A while back, Fairphone’s CEO hinted that the company wanted to start offering phones at an even lower price of €400, but it looks like it still has a long way to go.
You can follow the Source link to a blog post where Fairphone explains why it thinks 6GB of RAM is enough. Essentially, the company says that if you’re not a heavy user, the ideal amount of RAM is between 6GB and 12GB, while 16GB to 24GB of RAM “may be overkill.”
