An explosion occurred in the city centre of Cologne this morning, causing extensive damage to the entrance of a commercial building. Current information indicates that there were no injuries.
The explosive device exploded just after 6 a.m. next to the Hohenzollernring nightclub on Cologne’s party mile. Ceiling tiles fell and windows shattered at the entrance to the commercial building.
Police have not yet provided information on the cause of the explosion. The investigation is ongoing on all fronts.

The Hohenzollernring was closed between Rudolplatz and Friesenplatz for several hours in the morning. Police have now reopened the area.
Similar attacks follow in North Rhine-Westphalia
The incident is reminiscent of a series of similar attacks on residential and commercial buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia, some of which are said to have been carried out by Dutch drug gangs. The background is said to be a conflict with drug dealers from the Rhineland.
