Five people were taken to the police station this Sunday (27) after they were caught “voting in the ballot box” on Rua Dr. Luiz Palmier, in Barreto, in Niterói, in the Rio Metropolitan Region, military police officers from the 12th BPM were patrolling the area when they came across a group of individuals carrying out irregular election campaigning. As of the last update of this report, 43 people have been taken to the police for election crimes, according to information from TRE.
During the search, the team found several brochures from the mayoral candidate describing the violation. The practice of “exit polls”, which take place on voting day, is illegal and can result in penalties for those taking part.
For the second round of municipal elections taking place in Niteroi and the town of Petropolis, in the Serrana region, the military police mobilized more than 700 police officers.
The municipality of Niteroi had a reinforcement of 535 police officers, while Petropolis had 219. The aim is to increase the patrolling of public roads, the protection of the polling stations, the escort of the ballot boxes and the security of the buildings that will house the institutions responsible for electoral elections.
