In Głuchołazy, a bridge collapsed under the pressure of water

The struggle of firefighters and residents to maintain the temporary crossing of the Biała Głuchołaska River lasted several dozen hours.. Sandbags and stone cubes were placed on the wooden road and bridge pillars to weigh down the structure and strengthen it against the pressure of the water reaching the level of the road.

As Captain Paweł Kolera of the Opole State Fire Service told PAP, the pressure of the water destroyed not only the temporary bridge, but also damaged the structure of the latest river crossing that was being built nearby. – At this time, we do not know what impact the bridge collapse will have on the flooding situation in the city and below. – a firefighter told PAP.

The situation in the south of the Opole region and in Lower Silesia is critical. The alert level of several dozen rivers has exceeded the warning level. Evacuations of residents from some threatened cities are underway. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management predicts rainfall of up to 150 liters per square meter in the Lower Silesian, Opole, Silesian and Lesser Poland Voivodeships from Thursday to Sunday, which may cause flash floods. In these voivodeships, a warning is issued against heavy rainfall of the highest degree – third degree. The heaviest rainfall is expected in the Kłodzko Valley.
