After months of fighting, the traffic light coalition cannot agree on the right way to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. “We deeply regret that we have not been able to reach sufficient agreement on traffic lights to deal with the coronavirus pandemic as comprehensively and sustainably as we would like as the SPD,” SPD parliamentary group vice-president Dagmar Schmidt told partner newspaper the Neue Berliner Editorial Society (NBR ).
The SPD prefers citizens’ assemblies. The first parliamentary committee with randomly selected participants presented recommendations regarding nutrition policy. The FDP, on the other hand, proposed establishing a study commission consisting of parliamentarians and experts.
That’s not enough for the SPD. “We want to be clear on all levels: federal, state and local governments are involved, as are private citizens,” Schmidt said. “Unfortunately, our high demands for a sustainable approach to this pandemic cannot be met through the FDP,” he lamented.
The CDU MP in charge, Philipp Amthor (CDU) saw this as “new evidence of the traffic lights’ inability to act and reach an agreement”. A few days ago, the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) Alliance summoned the Corona investigation committee. AfD supports this.
