Barbara Nowacka has dismissed Marcin Smolik from his post as director of the Central Examination Commission. The Minister of Education has entrusted the current deputy director of the CKE, Horace Dębowski, with the duties of director.

Former Deputy Director of the Central Examination Commission Horacy Debowski In 2010-2017 he was a specialist at the Institute for Educational Research. He participated in the work on the preparation and implementation of the integrated qualification system. He was a specialist at the Center for Educational Development in the project to create the basic curriculum for vocational education. He was a professor at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology and the National School of Public Administration.

For over 10 years he has been conducting research and implementation projects in the field of vocational education and the labour market for Polish ministries and EU institutions. He represents Poland in the Advisory Group for the European Qualifications Framework at the European Commission. He is a graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics, specialising in economics.

Marcin Smolik has been the Director of the Central Examination Commission since July 2014. He was appointed to this position by the then Minister of Education, Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska, after winning the competition. From December 2013 he was director of the CKE and, from May 2012, head of the Department of Tests and Examinations for the General Education Area of ​​the CKE.

Smolik graduated from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and holds a PhD in Humanities in the field of English linguistics and applied linguistics. He is the author of textbooks and teaching materials for learning and teaching English. He is also the author of publications on measuring foreign language proficiency. In 2016-2017, he was the coordinator of a team of experts who worked on the creation of the basic curriculum for general education in the field of modern foreign languages.
