The deputy director of Bangu Prison 3, Vinícius dos Santos Cunha, and the criminal inspector, Wallace Fernandes Machado, were arrested red-handed for allegedly facilitating the entry of 52 mobile phones and three kilograms of marijuana into the prison unit.
According to authorities, Bangu 3 inmates, most of whom are members of the Comando Vermelho faction, benefited from the scheme. The scheme was discovered after monitoring security cameras that captured suspicious behavior by an inmate working as a janitor.
The inmates were recorded taking bags and putting them on carts without going through any search procedures. This movement attracted the attention of security officers.
In an attempt to cover up the scheme, deputy director Vinícius dos Santos Cunha collected the material and passed it through a scanner, without disclosing the contents of the bag. However, officers had already identified something suspicious and approached, confirming the entry of the phones and drugs.
After the crime was confirmed, preventive detention of the two suspects was ordered.
