Democrats in Chicago demanded to “arrest” Trump

No president should bow to dictators like Donald Trump did to Vladimir Putin; Kamala Harris won’t do that,” US President Joe Biden said at the Democratic presidential convention in Chicago. He also suggested that he withdraw from the race for the presidency to save democracy. In turn, US Vice President Kamala Harris unexpectedly appeared on stage on the first day of the convention. The party’s candidate thanked Biden for his “historic leadership.” In addition, thousands of Democratic delegates chanted “lock him up” during Hillary Clinton’s speech. They reacted in this way to Clinton’s words about Trump’s criminal conviction.

Biden, greeted by a standing ovation that lasted several minutes and the slogan “we love Joe,” used his speech to highlight his accomplishments, summarize his 50-year political career and outline what is at stake in the upcoming election, which he believes is democracy itself. He recalled that in 2021 he was sworn in outside the Capitol, which had been the scene of dramatic scenes two weeks earlier.

We must preserve democracy.”

It was a moment of danger and hope (…) But democracy won, democracy lived up to expectations and democracy must be preserved.

Biden said.

I have five months left as president and I still have a lot to do (…) I love this job, but I love my country even more. We must preserve democracy

– he emphasized.

At the end of his speech, he admitted that he was too old to remain president for another four years, but added:

America, I gave my all for you.

Biden noted that the achievements of his presidency, which he called “four extraordinary years of progress,” were also the work of his potential successor, Vice President Kamala Harris. His successes include: lowering prescription drug prices, investing nearly $1 trillion in infrastructure and hundreds of billions of dollars in building semiconductor factories, and the largest investment package in history for the energy transformation.

“Trump is a loser.”

Donald Trump says we are a failed nation. He says we are losing. He is the loser (…) America wins and the world benefits from it

Biden said.

He also added that, contrary to the former president’s claims, statistics show that crime is decreasing at the fastest rate in history.

And it will continue to decline if we put a prosecutor in the Oval Office instead of a convicted criminal.

– he added, referring to Harris’ career as a prosecutor in California and Trump’s criminal conviction.

Trump bowed to Putin

Speaking about foreign policy, the president expressed disgust at Trump’s expression of admiration for dictators, especially the Russian leader.

No president should bow to dictators the way Donald Trump bowed to Vladimir Putin. I didn’t do that, and Kamala Harris won’t either.

– Biden assured, announcing that his successor will be a president respected by the world.

Biden also addressed Israel’s war with Hamas in the Palestinian Gaza Strip, admitting that protesters protesting it have a point.

Many innocent people are dying (…) This war must end

– he said.

After finishing his speech to loud applause, Biden and his wife, Jill, exchanged hugs with Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.

Biden’s speech closed the first of four days of the Democratic convention in Chicago and marked a symbolic transfer of party leadership to Kamala Harris.

Thanks Joe”

Earlier, Harris herself appeared on stage before Biden. In a brief speech, previously unannounced and not included in the convention schedule, the vice president took the stage and emphasized Biden’s contributions to the country.

Joe, thank you for your historic leadership and lifetime of service to our country. We are forever grateful to you.

Harris said, to which the crowd responded with chants of “thank you Joe.”

Harris’ keynote address is scheduled for Thursday, the last day of the convention, when she will officially accept the party’s nomination.

Lock it”

Donald Trump fell asleep during his own trial and when he woke up, he made his own history – becoming the first presidential candidate with convictions for 34 crimes.

Clinton said during her speech in Chicago. Moments later, the crowd responded with chants of “lock him up” and applause.

Trump used the same slogan – but in reference to Clinton – during the 2016 election campaign, although during a recent press conference he claimed that it was thanks to his decision that Clinton was immune from accusations of improperly storing her work emails when she was the head of diplomacy.

Trump was found guilty by jurors in New York of 34 felonies related to concealing payment for silence from pornographic actress Stormy Daniels about their alleged affair, and on September 18, the judge presiding over the case is expected to rule on Trump’s sentence. While most experts do not expect the former president to receive a prison sentence, it is not theoretically impossible.

That’s when we’re going to move forward.”

Clinton – the first woman in history to be nominated by either party for president – devoted most of her speech in Chicago to Kamala Harris, her demands for women’s rights and the restoration of abortion rights, and her opportunity to “break through the glass ceiling.”

On the other side of that glass ceiling is Kamala Harris, raising her hand and taking the oath of office as the 47th president (…) That’s when we’re going to break through

Clinton said.
