In late August we welcomed the standard Google Pixel 9 and flagship Pixel 9 Pro XL, now the spotlight is turning to the little Pro and Google’s next-generation foldable smartphone.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold switches to a more traditional 20:9 aspect ratio for the external display, up from 17.4:9 on the original Pixel Fold. The internal display also gets a lot bigger, with a new 8-inch diagonal. There’s also a more powerful Tensor G4 chipset, but that’s pretty much it for the main improvements this year.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro isn’t available yet, it’s set to launch on September 16 (Monday). While it’s not the smallest flagship (both the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 Pro are smaller), it’s notable for its 48-megapixel 113mm periscope camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, as well as a 42-megapixel ultra-wide selfie camera.

free storage upgrade
an additional £200 credit when you exchange
It’s worth noting that the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold come with a free storage upgrade. Amazon is also offering an extra credit as a bonus when you trade in your old device.
This also applies to the Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL models, both of which come with a free storage upgrade and trade-in bonus.
The Google Pixel Watch 3 goes on sale Tuesday. This generation is 41mm in size, like the first two, but you can now opt for a larger 45mm model as well — in addition to increasing the screen size from 1.2″ to 1.4″, you also get a bigger 420mAh battery (up from 307mAh).
Samsung introduced a new category of watches this year, the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It is waterproof to 100m and has a built-in ECG sensor. The 1.5” display can reach 3000 nits of brightness, and the 590mAh battery provides great endurance.
There’s no Classic this year, but there is the Galaxy Watch7. It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes (with 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch displays, respectively) and also has an ECG sensor. Both this and the Ultra can also monitor blood pressure and skin temperature. While it’s not as durable, it’s still rated for water resistance up to 50m, which should be enough for most.
If you want something cheap, the Galaxy Watch FE has many of the same features – it’s designed to measure 50m, ECG, and blood pressure, and it even has sapphire glass. Remember, Prime Student members can get an additional discount on watches.
Finally, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are worth mentioning – the new Tensor A1 chipset promises twice as much noise cancellation as the original Pro. However, those headphones don’t launch until the end of this month, so we’ll have to get back to them.
