Since Thursday, September 12, when the Genoese low pressure Boris reached Poland, residents of the south-west of the country have been struggling with floods, which in many places were even worse than the memorable events of 1997, i.e. the so-called flood of the millennium. From Saturday afternoon, the dramatic situation intensified, which prompted the government to declare a state of natural disaster in the Lower Silesian, Silesian and Opole Voivodeships on Monday.
Polsat criticized for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ during flood
For many viewers, that was enough to make them feel a distinct sense of revulsion when Polsat began broadcasting “Dancing with the Stars” live on Sunday night. For some of the station’s viewers, watching celebrity dance performances at a time when parts of the country were battling flooding was clearly tactless.as evidenced by numerous critical posts on the show’s Facebook profile that appeared during its broadcast. “Because of the flood, we have a natural disaster and they are dancing and having fun. Lack of empathy. They should cancel today’s show,” wrote one of the users of the aforementioned platform, and such opinions were not isolated.
How does Polsat react to such allegations? We asked the broadcaster’s press office this question. “Televizja Polsat continuously reports on the flood situation in Poland on its three news channels and in news programmes on the main Polsat channel” – Polsat spokesman Tomasz Matwiejczuk responded to us.
News channels changed their schedules
In fact, due to the flood situation last weekend, the schedules of news programmes and regional channels were changed, with an increase in the frequency of news services, reports by reporters and live broadcasts.
The flood situation of the last few days did not affect, among others, by decision of TVP1, which broadcast on Sunday the first episode of the last series of the program “O Fazendeiro Quer Mulher”. However, the show’s creators expressed words of support for residents of the flooded areas battling the elements on their social media.
Due to the flood, TVN station has postponed Szymon Majewski’s participation in the program “Dzień Dobry TVN”. The showman was supposed to appear this week in a program as part of TVN’s star-studded breakfast series. However, Majewski’s premiere has been postponed to October 7. “We know what the situation is in Poland, what is happening, so there are more important matters,” Szymon Majewski said on the Instagram profile of “Dzień Dobry TVN”.
It is worth remembering that major broadcasters usually refrain from broadcasting entertainment programs in the event of major tragedies or when national mourning is announced.
