Costco yogurt is being recalled for the second time in a month, after manufacturer Danone Canada said the product may contain a type of yeast that can cause illness in people with weakened immune systems.
The recall affects Costco’s Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt available in 24-packs of 100-gram servings purchased at its Canadian warehouses between Sept. 3 and Sept. 19, Danone Canada said in a notice posted on the retailer’s website Sept. 23.
The affected products have best before dates of October 18, October 20, and October 22.
Danone added that the food safety risk was low, as yeast is not known to grow at cold temperatures.
The yogurt maker is asking people not to consume the product and to return it to a Costco warehouse for a full refund.
This is the second time in a month that a brand of yogurt sold at Costco has been recalled.
In early September, 24-packs of Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand Greek yogurt were recalled due to mold.
The recalled products were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
