The amended copyright law included a solution that was contested by both academic circles and representatives of book publishers.
Currently, art. 27 of the Copyright and Related Rights Act (i.e. Gazette of Laws of 2022, item 2509, as amended) allows educational institutions to use disseminated works and multiply disseminated smaller works for the purpose of illustrating content provided for educational purposes or for the purpose of carrying out scientific activities or fragments of larger songs. The size of the fragments covered by this form of permitted use is not specified by the Act.
However, when the change to copyright law comes into force (see box), the permitted fragments will be limited to 25% of the volume of the piece.
