10 horses with a total value of almost PLN 640,000. euro were sold on Sunday at the 55th Pride of Poland auction in Janów Podlaski (Lubelskie). The highest price at the auction – PLN 145,000. euro – was obtained by a mare from the Michałów stud farm. There is a strong comment.
Fifteen mares and three stallions were auctioned. Twelve horses came from state stud farms in Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Białka, and six horses – from private breeding.
The highest price at auction – PLN 145,000. euro – was achieved by the 15-year-old grey mare Zigi Zana from the Michałów stud farm. It was auctioned by a buyer from Belgium.
For 120,000 The four-year-old grey mare Alexandra from the Janów Podlaski stud farm was sold for 10,000 euros to a buyer from Qatar; while for 105,000 euros, the three-year-old grey mare Abellia from Janów Podlaski was sold to a Belgian buyer. In total, 10 horses were sold at this year’s Pride of Poland auction for a total amount of 637,000 PLN. They were purchased by buyers from Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden and Slovenia.
Eight horses did not reach the minimum price expected by their owners at the auction and were not sold. Among them, four horses were privately bred.
Last year, 14 horses were auctioned at the Pride of Poland auction for a total amount of over 2.1 million euros. The highest auction price – PLN 810,000. euro – was obtained by the mare El Esmera from the Michałów stud farm.
After the auction, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Czesław Siekierski told the media that “the disease that affected stud farms due to the previous government is behind us.”
The process of recovering the situation in stud farms has already begun
– he said during the briefing.
Siekierski thanked the management of the National Center for Agricultural Support (KOWR), the presidents and employees of the stud farms, who – as he said – contributed “to the healing process of the stud farms” and “to the success that is visible today.”
It was a success and we want to continue
– he announced.
Breeding requires time, knowledge, money, a specific program and passion. I think these elements are fulfilled, an example and result of this were the three days of the Arabian horse festival, which showed that there is great interest among foreign guests, but also social interest.
– said Siekierski.
According to KOWR General Director Henryk Smolarz, his task is to rebuild the good name of Arabian horse breeding in Poland. He announced efforts to maintain full stability of state stud farms and a good pace of breeding development.
Anna Stojanowska, advisor to the KOWR general director for Arabian horses, said the auction organizers did not want to deprive the stud farm of valuable mares.
Our goal was to restore the market. Not at any cost. And to sell horses without which the stud farms could continue to develop and operate.
she said.
He hopes the result will improve during Monday’s Summer Sale auction.
We dream of selling more horses, but rebuilding is a long-term process.
– said Stojanowska.
According to her, in the last eight years the stud farms were “cleansed of their best mares and stallions, they were cleansed of the stars”.
Champions are easy to sell
– she emphasized.
The chairman of SK Janów Podlaski, Leszek Świętochowski, calculated that out of the six horses put up for auction by the stud farm, four were sold for an average price of over PLN 80,000. As he noted, during the 46th National Thoroughbred Arabian Horse Show, which took place on Sunday, horses from Janów Podlaski won four championships in six categories.
According to the advisor to the president of the Janów stud farm and its former long-time boss, Marek Trela, we will have to wait “a few years” for big successes at auctions, because “these horses have not yet been born and have not grown up a bit.” According to him, about 100 horses will go to the so-called monthly auctions organized by stud farms in Janów and Michałów.
The president of the Michałów Stud Farm, Monika Słowik, said that this year the stud farm’s offering “had to be a little lower” because last year two “excellent mares” were sold. According to her calculations, out of the five horses exhibited during Sunday’s auction, three were sold for an average price of over PLN 70,000. euro.
Traditionally, after the Pride of Poland auction on Monday, buyers will be able to bid on more horses during the Arabian Horse Summer Sale. Young breeding horses are exhibited there, usually at lower prices than during the Pride of Poland. This year, 32 horses will be put up for sale during the Sumeria Sale – 26 mares (including seven young mares aged two and three) and six stallions. 20 horses come from state-owned stud farms in Janów Podlaski, Michałów and Białka, the rest from private breeding farms.
During last year’s summer auction, 16 horses were sold for PLN 324,000. Euro.
““Success for PO”
Monika Szatyńska-Luft commented on the results of the Janów auction on social media. The former spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and for years editor-in-chief of the website for Arabian horse lovers and breeders, compared this year’s auction with last year’s.
Defeat for PiS: Pride of Poland 2023 – 14 horses sold for PLN 2 million 161 thousand. euro. Success for PO: Pride of Poland 2024 – 10 horses sold for less than PLN 640 thousand. euro
– we read in its entry.
