“We are monitoring the state of the water supply system. Where water intakes have been contaminated, water is cut off. Therefore, only bottled water or water transported in tanker trucks is safe for drinking. We must absolutely not use water from wells during a flood. We advise against treating water yourself.” – reported in X by the Ministry of Health.
The Chief Sanitary Inspector warns against contaminated water in flooded areas and food that has come into contact with such water.
“In areas affected by floods, there may be problems accessing drinking water. It is best to use bottled water. Tap water may not be suitable for drinking or may only be suitable for drinking after boiling. Water from flooded private wells is unfit for drinking. After the flood passes, it will be necessary to disinfect the wells and test the water. Detailed instructions for cleaning wells after a flood will be available at district sanitary and epidemiological stations,” the GIS said on Monday.
Do not eat flood food, even if it has been packaged.
GIS chief Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski warns that “contact with flood water poses a threat to human and animal health,” but this also applies to food.
– All food that has come into contact with flood waters must be discarded – said Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, head of GIS. This also applies to food in cans and aluminum packaging, drinks and bottled water, as well as goods in flooded stores. Dr. Grzesiowski also called for the disposal of food in flooded warehouses and restaurants.
