Conference League. Wisła avoided the biggest defeat in history, but has no chance of advancing

The Krakow side started boldly. They tried to win the ball back quickly and created several promising chances, the most dangerous of which was in the sixth minute, which ended with a slightly missed shot by Marc Carbo.

At 11 minutes, Wisła was already losing 0:2

However, these were just good and bad beginnings. In the next action, the ball went to Alan Minda on the left wing, who beat Kamil Broda with a precise shot into the long corner.

Wisła players didn’t even have time to breathe after this blow as they lost 0:2. This time, Thibo Somers shot into the short corner and surprised Broda, who was poorly positioned and expecting a cross.

Range 0-3

Then there was a period of relatively balanced play, but at the end of the first half the guests attacked again. First, Broda won the duel with Kevin Denkey, but moments later, following a corner kick, Christiaan Ravych shot from close range into the net.

Wisła had the best chance to score in first-half injury time, after a shot from Angel Rodado. However, the visiting goalkeeper managed to deflect the ball onto the post.

Cercle continued scoring in the second half

However, shortly after the break, the guests scored the fourth goal. This time, Denkey beat Broda with a shot into the top corner. The following minutes confirmed Cercle’s absolute dominance. This resulted in the fifth goal scored by Abdoul Ouattara.

Wisła players tried to score at least one honorable goal. In the 73rd minute, Patryk Gogół came close, whose shot was saved by Warlesson, and Rodado’s follow-up was slightly off target. Moments later, the visiting goalkeeper made another great save after a shot from Gogół.

Rodado’s honorary goal

In the end, Kazeem Olaigbe took a perfect free kick from about 20 meters out. But then Wisła managed to carry out an effective action. Rodado hit the post and scored his seventh goal in this edition of the European Cups.

Thanks to this, Wisła avoided the biggest defeat in the history of their participation in European competitions, and only equalled the worst feat of the recent game against Rapid, in Vienna.
