Israeli military says Beirut strike killed Hezbollah drone unit chief
An Israeli strike, in the southern suburbs of Beirut, killed the head of Hezbollah’s drone unit, Mohammed Srour, the Israeli army assured, while initial reports reported two deaths, without specifying their identities. “The fighter jet was targeted and destroyed. “The Israeli strike targeted the commander of the drone unit, Mohammed Srour, known as Abou Saleh, whose fate is not yet known”a source close to Lebanon’s pro-Iran movement previously said on condition of anonymity. According to the same source, Mohammed Srour, a mathematician, was one of the movement’s senior commanders sent to Yemen to train the Houthi rebels, who are also backed by Iran.
It was the fourth attack in a week targeting Hezbollah strongholds near the Lebanese capital. It was not far from the site of another attack that killed Ibrahim Aqil, the commander of an elite Hezbollah unit, and several other officials on Friday. In total, Friday’s attacks left 55 people dead, including seven children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
