Civil Police officers of the Directorate General of Capital Police (DGPC) arrested, Saturday (21) this week, three members of a gang that committed several vehicle thefts in the Western and Northern areas. This action is part of the “Operation Tourniquet”, which combats vehicle and cargo theft in the state, and is supported by the Civil Police Intelligence Deputy Secretariat and the General Security Secretariat.
According to the investigation, the group operated in Jacarepaguá, Grande Tijuca and Grande Méier. They were intercepted on their way to the Freguesia area with the aim of stealing new cars.
The three men were in possession of a vehicle stolen in the Tijuca area and two pistols, as well as 25 rounds of ammunition and additional magazines.
According to the corporation, once they were approached, the criminals opened fire on the police and a brief confrontation ensued. They soon surrendered and agents found two people injured. They were taken to a local hospital.
The three were charged with attempted murder, receiving stolen goods, forming an armed gang and possession of a restricted firearm.
