The samba artist José Francisco de Oliveira Neto, better known as the master dancer Chiquinho, died this Thursday (17/10). A six-time champion for the Imperatriz Leopoldinense, he was 60 years old.

Chiquinho was hospitalized for more than a month and treated for a generalized infection. He became famous for parading in the samba school between 1983 and 2005 alongside his mother, the standard-bearer Maria Helena, who died in 2022.

On Instagram, the school announced his death and recalled part of his story. “It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our eternal Chiquinho. One of the greatest masters of all time, 6 times champion with Imperatriz Leopoldinense; holder of 2 gold standards, Crown Jewel and owner of inimitable style”, the text begins.

“Chiquinho protected our pavilion from 1984 to 2005; marking time in our school. Here is our tribute and remembrance. We will never forget you. We will always remember you with that smile on your face. Thank you for everything,” the note read.
