Charges are being filed against a truck driver who fatally struck a pedestrian

A truck driver who ran over a 70-year-old woman at a pedestrian crossing in Gdańsk will be held responsible for driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to yield to a pedestrian. The elderly man died. The man pleaded not guilty. He claimed that the pedestrian ran out from behind the bus and was unable to avoid the accident.

The charges relate to driving under the influence of alcohol and violating road safety rules by failing to take special care when approaching a pedestrian crossing and failing to give way to a pedestrian crossing, as a result of which he hit her with the front of his vehicle, and the woman died as a result of her injuries. – said RMF FM Grażyna Wawryniuk, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk

The penalty is 5 to 20 years in prison.

The man did not question the results of the field sobriety tests. 44-year-old man driving a truck he had over 2.5 per mil of alcohol in his body.

However, he claims that he did not feel drunk. As for the accident, he denies having caused it. In his explanation, he stated that he could not avoid it because the woman hit his car from behind the bus. After the activities, the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to file a request for temporary arrest with the Court. – adds Wawryniuk.

As a reporter from RMF FM found out, two breathalyzer tests carried out shortly after the accident gave results with an upward trend.
