Prince William (42), heir to the British throne, spoke about X today (September 17) at the start of the UEFA Champions League league stage. A lifelong fan of the Birmingham-born Aston Villa club, he wished the team good luck in the upcoming match while also recalling football history.
Prince William recalls triumphs before he was born
“The last time Aston Villa won Europe’s greatest competition was a month before I was born,” William wrote, alluding to his team’s victory in the European Cup final on 26 May 1982. “This is the first step towards another European adventure!”
Princess Kate’s husband, 42, has watched his team play live at the stadium several times in the past, and he has sat in the stands with his son Prince George, 11. Villa are due to play Young Boys Bern in Switzerland later that evening.
This is the club’s first ever Champions League appearance. The traditional club last played in the European Cup in the 1982/83 season. In the newly introduced Champions League league stage, the team will face the likes of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.
